Check-ins now can prevent much bigger problems later

Right now, many of BC’s Agriculture Employers are hiring, onboarding and training workers while also trying to keep day-to-day operations moving. During this busy season, things move quickly and communication often becomes more informal than intended.

That’s usually when small misunderstandings start building quietly. Workers may not always be clear on expectations, priorities, or who to ask when questions come up. Supervisors may assume something was already explained, while workers may assume they should already know the answer.

A lot of these issues can be prevented with simple early check-ins. They do not need to be formal meetings or lengthy paperwork. Even quick conversations during the first few weeks can help clarify expectations, answer questions and reinforce priorities before small concerns become larger issues later in the season.

This is why many employers use simple 30, 60, and 90-day check-ins during onboarding. These conversations often help:

  • Catch confusion early
  • Improve communication
  • Support retention during one of the busiest times of year
